Catherine Malabou

Catherine Malabou is one of the most exciting and innovative philosophers in Europe today. Currently professor at the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy (CRMEP), Kingston University, London, Malabou has drawn together ideas from contemporary neuroscience and psychoanalysis as well as Hegel and Heidegger in her novel theory of 'plasticity', connecting together the worlds of continental philosophy and empirical scientific research. This radical new path allows for a rethinking of fundamental issues, including 'nature' vs 'nurture', the relation of thought to matter, gender difference and even the style of philosophy itself. Malabou's latest book, Before Tomorrow: Epigenesis and Rationality (Polity 2016), a bold re-reading of Kant and transcendental idealism in light of the latest neurobiological discoveries, further cements her reputation as a philosopher at the forefront of contemporary thought.
