Sylvia Walby

Sylvia Walby OBE is Distinguished Professor of Sociology at Lancaster University and the UNESCO Chair in Gender Research. She is a leading scholar of gender relations and gender inequality, making notable contributions in particular to the social scientific study of patriarchy and gender regimes. Her recent work has focused on broader social theories of inequality, globalization and violence, drawing on complexity theory. Her recent Polity books include The Future of Feminism and Crisis, which offers a new social theory of crisis in response to the contemporary challenges faced in social and political life.
