Élisabeth Roudinesco is one of France’s most prominent psychoanalysts and the leading authority on the history of psychoanalysis in France. Currently a director of studies at the University of Paris VII – Denis Diderot, Roudinesco began her academic career as a literary critic, writing pioneering psychological studies of figures such as Brecht and Artaud before moving on to conduct path-breaking research on the history of psychoanalysis in France and writing an influential and important biography of Lacan, published by Polity in 1997. Her most recent work has investigated themes such as the history of perversion and the nature of Jewishness, published in English by Polity respectively as Our Dark Side: A History of Perversion and Revisiting the Jewish Question.
