Manuel Castells is one of the world’s greatest sociologists and his work on the information age and the ‘network society’ has fundamentally transformed our frameworks for understanding modern societies. Most well known for his trilogy on The Information Age, his writings on technology, cities, the internet and social movements have profoundly shaped our conception of the nature of production, consumption and protest in the era of globalization. He is one of the most cited scholars in the social sciences today and has won many prestigious prizes, including the Holberg Prize and the Balzan Prize. His books with Polity include Networks of Outrage and Hope, Another Economy is Possible and Rupture.
