danah boyd

danah boyd is widely regarded as one of the most innovative, exciting and unconventional scholars of digital media in the world today. She is a Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research and the founder of leading research institute Data & Society, as well as a Visiting Professor at New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program. Her work has focused on how young people use social media as part of their everyday practices and her findings have been published in numerous papers and books, most notably It's Complicated: The Social Lives of Networked Teens. More recently she has focused on the social and cultural implications of ‘Big Data’, problematizing the assumption that the data revolution will necessarily be a force for equality and progress. Many of these themes are explored in her collaborative volume with Henry Jenkins and Mizuko Ito, Participatory Culture in a Networked Era, published by Polity in 2015.
